Hymn Stanza of the Week: Built on the Rock the Church Shall Stand

Built on the Rock the Church Shall Stand
Nicolai F. S. Grundtvig; TLH 467, stanza 6

Here stands the font before our eyes
Telling how God did receive us;
Th' altar recalls Christ's sacrifice
And what His table doth give us;
Here sounds the Word that doth proclaim
Christ yesterday, today, the same,
Yea, and for aye our Redeemer.

This is an AWESOME hymn! I am reminded of the persecuted church in stanza one...

Built on the Rock the Church doth stand,
Even when steeples are falling;
Crumbled have spires in every land,
Bells still are chiming and calling

I commented on this over at LutheranTimeOut.org.

Thanks for the comment. I agree--it is an awesome hymn, a perfect marriage of text and tune.
